Weekend Review: The Invention of Wings, Brunch, & Bachelor Recaps

That was another blink-and-you've-missed-it week and weekend. Nothing to complain about; just filled with little things. I rely so much on my planner at times like these -- case in point, I left it at home on Monday and totally forgot to go to afternoon rounds :S I did better today...but of course rounds were cancelled. Can't win :) Here are some things that I've appreciated in the past seven days:

  1. quiet call -- I spent a good part of my Saturday call shift reading, which was pretty much the best thing ever.
    samsung galaxy tab notes
even if it was my radiation physics textbook
  2. TV -- I don't own a TV and don't miss it (don't worry, I'm not TV-deprived -- just use my laptop). It's become sort of a novelty sit in front of a TV and flip channels, which I did for a bit in the hospital lounge.
    call room tv
I do realize that it's sad this was a highlight in my day :S
  3. froyo -- It's been too long...as evidenced by the fact that Menchie's has turned over all its flavours since I last visited.
    menchies froyo
but still has the staple toppings -- Skor bits and cheesecake pieces
  4. The Invention of Wings by Sue Monk Kidd -- I just finished this wonderful story (thanks to Happy or Hungry's recommendation -- she's currently my #1 source for book recommendations (and other hilarity)). By the author of The Secret Life of Bees, this book tells the parallel stories of a slave and her owner in Charleston, SC; it's a well-researched story, based on actual people, that spans half a century, and definitely would be worth your while to pick up!

  5. brunch -- My residency program got together for an awesome potluck brunch over the weekend. Every single person was able to make it (a rarity) AND no one got paged.
    yogurt parfaits
my sloppy contribution (turns out yogurt parfaits are trickier to perfect than Pinterest would lead you to believe)
  6. The Bachelor -- I'm a secret Bachelor fan...but really I live for the recaps, which always promise more entertainment than the show itself.
